Evidence of Ancient Life in the Arctic Region by Science and Old Scriptures
Earth is a beautiful blue dot in the universe that is home for millions of species including humans. But only 21% of the earth-space is habitable for humans and out of this 21% a lot of the areas are there on earth which is not in water but still not habitable like Poles.
Miles of thick ice, stronger wind and darkness of six months out of 12 months, make this place non-habitable (Currently the Arctic region is the base for only researchers). But if I say that this place was a place of humans and life was flourished in the Arctic, it will definitely sound weird because the kind of environment needed to grow life is not present in this region.
The conditions which make any place favorable for life?
The first and foremost condition is the climate in terms of temperature. If any species gets the temperature according to its need, then life becomes desirable to live in that environment. If the temperature of any place remains mild and moderate, then it helps in mobilizing the elements that meet the needs of life. Like enough amounts of water will be available, the speed of vegetation growth will increase. And once these elements are available, then animals and humans start living there to consume them.
If somehow we can prove that in the ancient time climate was suitable for life in the Arctic region, we might be able to solve the mystery. If we currently see the Arctic region, it looks impossible to live there. But in the past, there were certain conditions that occurred in space which made this place climate much milder and moderate than today which made the Arctic region more suitable for habitation. As earth continuously floats in space, it faces the forces from other astronomical elements like stars, neighbor planet, natural satellite like moon and meteoroids.
It looks very easy when we see in the textbook that earth is moving round and round around the sun. But it is not the reality. As per Einstein space theory, this universe is a map if space and time and all space elements are moving towards its center of gravity. An interesting video explains better about this phenomenon
The astronomical conditions that favored life (As per Milankovitch cycles)
Earth Axial Tilt
At an obliquity of 0 degrees, the two axes point in the same direction; i.e., the rotational axis is perpendicular to the orbital plane. Earth’s obliquity oscillates between 22.1 and 24.5 degrees on a 41,000-year cycle; Earth’s mean obliquity is currently 23°26′12.3″ (or 23.43676°) and decreasing.
Decreasing means more chances for Ice Age.
Increasing means fewer chances of the Ice age
At present, it is decreasing at a rate of about 47″ per century. So if we try to calculate it will find that approximately 9000 years before earth obliquity was at maximum. So when obliquity is maximum (24.5) then poles were exposed maximum to the sun and when obliquity is minimum, poles are exposed less to the sun. Currently decreasing means, in past obliquity was maximum and poles were maximum exposure to the sun. More changes to having mild and moderate temperatures in Poles.
Earth own axial precession
Precessional movement of Earth. Earth rotates (white arrows) once a day around its rotational axis (red); this axis itself rotates slowly (white circle), completing a rotation in approximately 25,772 years. If we look into the below picture then we can see that in 10000 AD earth poles will be maximum exposure to the sun. So approximately 12000-13000 BC earth was in the same condition where poles were maximum exposure to the sun.
The Earth’s rotation around its axis and revolution around the Sun evolve over time due to gravitational interactions with other bodies in the solar system. Eccentricity is, simply, the shape of the Earth’s orbit around the Sun. This constantly fluctuating, orbital shape ranges between more and less elliptical (0 to 5% ellipticity) on a cycle of about 100,000 years.
These oscillations, from more elliptic to less elliptic, are of prime importance to glaciation in that it alters the distance from the Earth to the Sun. When the Earth’s orbit is most elliptical the amount of solar energy received at the perihelion would be in the range of 20 to 30 percent more than at aphelion. At present, the orbital eccentricity is nearly at the minimum of its cycle.
Above astronomical conditions explains
– In Past Exposure of the poles towards Sun was maximum(By having maximum tilt angle and maximum precession)
– Earth had the shortest orbit where the Earth received maximum radiation from the Sun which helps the earth temperature to become mild and moderate and more favorable for habitation.
– These effects created the Inter-Glacial period on Earth.
Not only astronomically but a lot of scientific proof suggest that the Earth has witnessed Glacial and Inter-Glacial Periods. This subject circumstantially explained in the book “Arctic Home in the Vedas”
1. Last Glacial period must have closed and the Post-Glacial commenced at about 10,000 years ago, or 8,000 B.C. at the best, and the freshness of the Siberian fossil-deposits favors this view.
2. There were at least two Glacial and one Inter-Glacial period, and the geographical distribution of land and water on the earth during the Inter-Glacial period was quite different from what it is at present.
3. There is enough evidence to show that the Arctic regions, both in Asia and Europe, were characterized in the Inter-Glacial period by cool summers and warm winters and that places like Spitzbergen, were once the seat of luxuriant vegetation, that grows, at present, only in the temperate or the tropical climate.
4. It was the coming on of the Glacial age that destroyed this genial climate and rendered the regions unsuited for the habitation of tropical plants and animals.
5. Several eminent scientific men have already advanced the theory that the cradle of the human race must be sought for in the Arctic regions and that the plant and animal life also originated in the same place.
The below image explained the temperature rising at poles in the past. When the temperature rises the thickness of the Ice reduced and that happens in a very short span of time. So approximately 8000 BC temperature came to its maximum position which is the same as of today. These long glacial periods were separated by more temperate and shorter interglacials.
Was Human Ever Habited in Poles?
Recently research team of Russia has studied the Zhokhov site of an ancient population, which is located in the high-latitude Arctic. Researchers discovered the remains of an ancient people here, the Zhokhov site, considered the earliest evidence for human habitation in the High Arctic. Researchers believe 25 to 50 people permanently resided in the area around 9300 to 8600 years ago. In the remote past, Zhokhov island was a part of the vast plain formed due to drastic sea level drop during the last glacial maximum.
Because of the post-glacial sea-level rise, this plain was flooded and eroded. At present, the Zhokhov site is located in the southwestern part of the modern Zhokhov island, near the foot of a 120-meter hill, which shields it from the severe northwest wind. This place was very convenient for ancient people. The hill served as an observation point, and because of the proximity to the coast, they always had a supply of driftwood carried in by the tide. We can see that the duration of human habitation from the research is almost the same the time which is calculated above by studying astronomical behavior of earth. The Russian research clearly, indicates the Human presence in the Arctic region. Now I would like to present some indicative pieces of evidence from ancient scriptures in terms of Hymes.
These scriptures are more than 2000 BC old and many Hymes are clearly describing the natural phenomenon which occurs only in the region of the poles like 6 month day and 6 month night. I have extracted some hymns from ancient scriptures. When we say the day of 6 months long, it exactly meaning is the day with long Dawns and long twilights.
“On the 16th of March, the sun rises, preceded by long dawn of forty-seven days, namely, from the 29th January, when the first glimmer of light appears. On the 25th of September, the sun sets, and after a twilight of forty-eight days, namely, on the 13th November, darkness reigns supreme, so far as the sun is concerned, for seventy-six days followed by one long period of light, the sun remaining above the horizon one hundred and ninety-four days. The year, therefore, is thus divided at the Pole: — 194 days sun; 76 Full day; 47 days dawn; 48 twilights.
There is immense evidence for Arctic Dawns which I describe above (47 days) in the book “Arctic Home in Vedas” which has been taken from ancient scriptures like Rig Veda. Few I adding here with an explanation.

Rig-Veda Mandala I, Hymn 113 Dawn, Sloke 10
Kiyâti â yât samayâ bhavâti
yâ vyûshuryâshcha nunam vyuchhân
Anu pûrvâh kripate vâvashâna
pradidhyânâ josham anyâbhir eti
The first quarter of the verse is rather difficult. The words are kiyâti ā yat samayâ bhavâti, and Sâyana, whom Wilson follows, understands samayâ to mean “near.” Prof, Max Müller translates samayâ (Gr.Omos, Lat, Simul,) by “together,” “at once” while Roth, Grassmann, and Aufrecht take samayâ bhavâti as one expression meaning “that which intervenes between the two. This has given rise to three different translations of the verse WILSON,
(following Sâyana): For how long a period is it that the dawns have arisen? For how long a period will they rise? Still desirous to bring us light, Ushas pursues the function of those that have gone before and shining brightly, proceeds with the others (that are to follow). GRIFFITH, (following Max Müller): — How long a time and they shall be together, Dawns that have shone and Dawns to shine hereafter? She yearns for former Dawns with eager longing and goes forth gladly shining with the others.
MUIR, (following Aufrecht): — How great is the interval that lies between the Dawns which have arisen and those which are yet to rise? Ushas yearns longingly after the former Dawns and gladly goes on shining with the others (that are to come).
There are two sets of dawns, one of, those that have past, and the other of those that are yet to shine. If we adopt Wilson’s and Griffith’s translations, the meaning is that these two classes of dawns, taken together, occupy such a long period of time as to raise the question, — How long they will be together? In other words, the two classes of dawns, taken together, were of such a long duration that men began to question as to when they would terminate, or pass away.
If, on the other hand, we adopt Aufrecht’s translation, a long period appears to have intervened between the past and the coming dawns; or, in other words, there was a long break or hiatus in the regular sequence of these dawns. In the first case, the description is only possible if we suppose that the duration of the dawns was very long, much longer than what we see in the temperate or the tropical zone; while in the second, a long interval between the past and the present dawns must be taken to refer to a long pause, or night, occurring immediately before the second set of dawns commenced their new course, — a phenomenon which is possible only in the Arctic regions.

Rig-Veda Mandala VII, Hymn 76 Dawn
Tani it ahâni bahulâne âsan
Yâ prâchînam ud-itâ suryasya |
Yatah pari jâre-iva â-charanti
Ushâh, dadrikshe na punah yatî-îva ||
Those verily days many were
which aforetime on the uprising of the sun
from which after towards a lover like, moving on
O Dawn wast seen not again forsaking (woman), like
After stating in the first two verses that the Dawns have raised their banner on the horizon with their usual splendor, expressly tells us, (verse 3), that a period of several days elapsed between the first appearance of the dawn on the horizon and the actual rising of the sun that followed it.
As science is progressing, more and more ancient artifacts discovered by excavations that prove human presence in the Arctic region. But if we study these ancient scriptures, we will find that there are already many symbolic clues that can help humanity to dig more accurately. But most of these scriptures are not well-studied. Their powers are not properly assessed. Because all information in the Veda is indicative, so it is very important to understand how to recognize these signs.
Bal Gangadhar Tilak Ji attempted very well to identify these signs which prove the presence of human beings in the Arctic area. My Idea in this article to merge Science and Myth together and conclude the same result. All this information I read and studied and found very interesting. Hence thought to share with all the readers.
